Local Cuisine

Warung Mak Beng in Sanur is a legendary spot for seafood lovers. Known for its fish soup and fried fish, this warung has been serving up delicious and fresh seafood since 1941. It's a must-visit for anyone wanting to experience the flavors of the sea in Bali.

Location & Ambiance

Located on Jalan Hang Tuah No. 45, Sanur, Warung Mak Beng has a straightforward and unpretentious setting. The warung's simple decor and casual vibe make it a great place to enjoy a meal without any frills. It’s all about the food here.

What I Ordered

During my visit, I ordered the set menu, which includes a bowl of fish soup, a piece of fried fish, and a serving of rice. The fish soup was aromatic and flavorful, with a perfect balance of spices. The fried fish was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, making for a delightful contrast in textures.

Taste & Price

The seafood at Warung Mak Beng is incredibly fresh and delicious. The fish soup was a standout, with its rich and savory broth, while the fried fish was cooked to perfection. At Rp 45,000 to Rp 60,000 per person, it’s a bit pricier than some other warungs, but the quality and taste of the food make it worth every penny.

Downsides

The warung can get very busy, especially during lunchtime, so be prepared to wait for a table. The seating area is quite basic and might not be the most comfortable for a long meal. However, the incredible seafood more than makes up for these minor inconveniences.

Conclusion

Warung Mak Beng is a must-visit for seafood enthusiasts looking to enjoy fresh and flavorful dishes in Sanur. While the wait and basic seating might be a downside, the delicious fish soup and fried fish will make you forget all about it. If you're in Sanur, make sure to stop by this iconic warung.
